Home Improvements

Well, I have finally moved in. It was nearly a month to they day after making an offer that I settled, and nearly a month to the day after settling that I moved in. In "real estate time", that seems pretty fast!

In that time, I'm happy to say that with a lot of help from a lot of people, I have done quite a bit to upgrade this place before moving in. I did a few run-of-the-mill homeowner things (replace sockets, upgrade light fixtures, clean). I had no idea how much a new, clean light switch and functioning socket could make me! And, I did a few more exciting things as well....

The first thing I really wanted to do was install hardwood floors. I have always loved hardwood floors, I knew they would look great in this place, and I wanted to infuse some value in right away, and enjoy it for a long time.  I found a highly recommended person on Angie's List and, in addition to being the most cost competitive, his team did a lovely job installing solid, white oak floors in a rich brown color.

The second thing I needed to do was "enhance" the laundry room so that the kitty cats wouldn't be tempted to get into places they didn't belong. My Dad was going to help out with that, I thought, by just nailing up some pegboard. But, he had some bigger plans in mind. :)

There is still a bit more to do. But, the kitties are anxious to get in there and see what is going on.

Next post, I'll show a few 'before' and 'after' shots of some of the rooms that have been done or almost done.
